Finding out about local information, services and support

It is very hard to know where to start when you are looking for help and advice. An afternoon on the internet can make things even more complicated as all areas of the country are different so the services will differ.

You should have a key contact person who can direct you to relevant help. Some areas run courses on caring for someone with dementia.  These can give you a lot of information about dementia, tell you about your rights as a carer and boost your confidence.

Another way of finding help in your area is by contacting your local GP. They will have a list of support groups and many other services that can help you and the person you look after. This list can really be worth its weight in gold.

Another place to find the help and support that you may need is your local council's social services department. They should have a list, just like your GP, about all the help ad support you have available to you in the area.
